Expect Nothing Less!
Please take your time when researching breeders of the Coton de Tuléar. Please support breeders who belong to a reputable Coton breed club. For the Coton de Tuléar the reputable breed club in the United States of America that I recommend is the American Coton Club (ACC) ACC breeders follow a code of ethics and care about the health and well being of their Coton de Tuléar dogs. The ACC also supports the Coton de Tuléar as a rare breed dog.
Responsible Coton breeders have the love of their Cotons at heart. Responsible Coton breeders test that their Cotons are free from defects before they breed their Cotons. The American Coton Club requires certain health testing on breedable Cotons and results are searchable on the OFA and CERF websites. Responsible Coton breeders will take back a Coton that an owner cannot keep, no matter what the reason. What is a Breeder?
ACC breeders strive for a superior standard of excellence. Expect nothing less!
RED FLAG WARNING! There are many registries in the USA. Some registries are papermills who will register puppymill dogs. They will register any dog and you may think you are purchasing a pure bred Coton de Tuléar if you purchase a puppy from a breeder who is affiliated with one of these registries, beware! Some examples of registries in the USA are the APRI, the ACA and the AKC FSS. These registries will register backyard breeder dogs, puppymill dogs, dogs from auctions and dogs from pet shops. There are no background checks on these dogs.
A responsible breeder will never sell his/her puppies to a backyard breeder, pet store or to a puppymill. Watch the following puppymill video. Is this how you want your puppy to have his/her start in life? Do you want to support breeders who bring puppies into this world under these conditions? How will you know if the puppy you purchase from a puppymill, pet store or backyard breeder is a genuine Coton de Tuléar? Is it your desire to purchase a Coton de Tuléar with a fraudulent pedigree? If you purchase a puppy from a pet store or a puppy mill you are helping promote an industry that, in my opinion, should be banned in the USA. Learn more about Puppymill's on the following websites -
Humane Society of the United States - Beware of purchasing a Coton from Purebred Puppies LLC (purebredbreeders.com)
If your desire is to have a Coton de Tuléar puppy join your family that has had a great start in life, a puppy that is a genuine Coton de Tuléar, then purchase a puppy from a breeder who is a member of the American Coton Club.
No dog is hypoallergenic. One person may be allergic to dog dander, another person may be allergic to the dog's saliva, urine, feces or the shampoo used on the dog. Most people who have allergic reactions to dogs do fine with Cotons but there are some people who will have an allergic reaction to Cotons. As an example, my daughter breaks out in a rash on her neck when my Cotons lick her on her neck, she is allergic to their saliva.
TiaCotons will provide the following with each puppy sold:

Baby gates to confine puppy to areas that have been puppy proofed. Watch out for poisons, electrical cords etc.
Shears for trimming around paw pads or small electric trimmer, Nail Trimmer
Combs and Brush, Shampoo and Conditioner (See Grooming Tips page)
Special treats for training your Coton de Tulear puppy, I prefer treats without the addition of corn, wheat or any by-products. My Cotons enjoy Merrick flossies, chicken strips made in the USA, goat milk yogurt, carrots , freeze dried liver treats and doggie biscuits. My Cotons favorite doggie cookies are Castor and Pollux Organic dog cookies. They enjoy the chicken, peanutbutter or cheese flavored treats. You can find them here.
Please take doggie waste bags with you when you walk your Coton so you can pick up your Coton's waste, your neighbors will appreciate it!
A friend of mine makes these great doggie waste bags to carry along when walking your Coton. The bags are made out of pop tabs that are crocheted into bags. The blue bag has a zipper across the top, the black bag has a zipper down the side and around the top of the bag and the champagne bag has a draw string. Bags can be ordered in many different colors and pick the style you like. The price is $12.50 for each bag plus shipping charges. The bag can be attached to the leash or make a knot in the leash to attach the bag or attach to your jean belt loop. If you would like to special order a doggie waste bag please email Dori at -
Feeding your Coton
Our puppies and adult Cotons are fed high quality dog food. We feed our Cotons RedMoon Custom PetFood or Nature's Variety Dog Food, Nature's Variety Prairie has grains and Nature's Variety Instinct is a grain free food. If I am feeding my Cotons Natures Variety I mix a bag of Prairie with Instinct in the same flavor so there is less grain in the food and then I add some canned food in the same flavor to the mix at feeding time.
RedMoon Custom PetFood received the highest rating of five paws from Petsumer Reports. The Petsumer Reports on RedMoon Custom PetFood are listed below.

Plus: The Red Moon Representative told me ingredients are human grade/human quality. The mineral listings do read to be chelated or proteinated (for better mineral absorption). This pet food contains several animal protein sources - chicken, sardine, chicken liver. Very prompt customer service.
Minus: Base formula does not include probiotics (friendly bacteria that benefits the intestinal system and in turn the immune system of the pet); can be added as supplement.
The digestive support supplement, Digest Aid, can be one of the supplements chosen to add to the base formula for the friendly bacteria that benefits the intestinal system. I also order the lamb formula for variety and rotate the formula's.
Some different treats I feed my Cotons are RedMoon Dog Treats, Caster and Pollux Organic Chicken Dog Treats, Nature's Variety Grain Free Treats, Nature's Logic Canine Treats, Liver Biscotti, No Wheat Belly Rubs Dog Treats, Flossies, carrot sticks and goat milk yogurt.
Please do not feed the following to your Coton de Tulear dog:
Greenies have been known to cause death to some dogs, raisins, grapes and any fruit pits, chocolate, onions, tomatoes, macadamia nuts, walnuts, alcoholic beverages, bread dough, caffeine - coffee or coffee grounds, any bones that have been cooked or barbecued and sugarless gums and candies containing Xylitol. The above items can be fatal to a dog. Keep the garbage can away from where your dog can get into it. If you suspect your dog has ingested any of these items or other potentially dangerous substances please seek emergency medical help right away.
Dr. Steven R. Hansen, director of the ASPCA's Animal Poison Control Center, gives pet owners a full list of foods, plants, chemicals and drugs that are commonly found in people's homes that can be deadly.
If your Coton has diarrhea, applesauce or plain canned pumpkin (not pie filling pumpkin) will help control the diarrhea. Fruitables has a product that is excellent for upset tummy's. Diagel is another product I recommend. DiaGel is a unique, all-natural, oral formula that works within 24 hours to kill bacteria and flush toxins in the GI tract, stopping diarrhea.
I use "Petz Life" Oral Spray or Gel in my Cotons mouths to help fight plaque. Leba lll is another product that helps fight plaque. I also sprinkle Wysong Denta Treat powder on my adult Cotons food to help fight plaque.
The harness I prefer for my puppies and adult Cotons can be purchased here or here is a website for a rolled leather harness that some Coton owners prefer.
Beautiful satin collars can be custom ordered from here, ask for padded handles and a D-ring on the leash for an ID tag. They can be made with attached leads or solo for use with Flexi or other leashes. Special stroller leashes which unclip from the stroller restraint and clip onto matching long leads can also be made. They are wide and soft so they don’t hurt the trachea or cause matting.
Coton de Tuléar dogs are in the small breed dog catagory. I know female Cotons who weigh 9 pounds and some female Cotons I know weigh as much as 16 pounds. Males may weigh between 10 and 18 pounds. Cotons are very loving and they enjoy human companionship. Coton de Tuléar dogs may enjoy the following activities: Agility, Rally O', Canine Freestyle Dance, Therapy Dog, Obedience and Conformation.
If you would like more information about anticipated litters or puppies that may be available now, please contact me. My puppies are usually spoken for within the first few weeks of their birth so early inquiries are suggested.
